How to Enter Phone Numbers for Referees in Referoo

Quick Overview

This article explains how to correctly enter phone numbers when adding referee details in Referoo. It covers phone number validation, country selection, digit requirements, and which number type to use to ensure referees can be contacted successfully.

Checking All Numbers

Click into, then out of, each phone number field to trigger automatic validation. Phone numbers will be highlighted in red if they are invalid.

❗️Note:❗️

Please double-check to ensure all phone numbers you are entering are correct.

Phone Number Country

Ensure you have selected the correct Country from the selector box, located just to the left-hand side of the phone number field. That country's flag will be displayed in the box once the country has been selected.

Example:

If the person has an Australian phone number but is living in New Zealand, for example, you will still need to select Australia.

Number of Digits

Ensure all phone numbers entered have the correct number of digits.

Phone Number Type

It is recommended that you enter your referee's mobile phone number so they can also be invited to complete your reference through a link sent via SMS.

Either the referee's mobile phone number or landline number can be used, but the landline should only be entered if you have also provided the referee's email address. Otherwise, the referee cannot automatically be contacted to provide an online reference.

If providing a landline number, you will need to include the state code as part of the number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the phone number showing in red?

The phone number field is highlighted in red when the number entered is invalid. Click into then out of the field to trigger validation. Check that the correct country is selected and that the number has the correct number of digits.

Which country should I select if my referee lives in a different country to where their number is from?

Select the country that matches the phone number itself, not the country the referee is currently living in. For example, if they have an Australian number but live in New Zealand, select Australia.

Can I use a landline number instead of a mobile number?

Yes, but only if you also provide the referee's email address. Without an email address, the referee cannot be automatically contacted to complete the reference. If using a landline, include the state/area code as part of the number.

Why is it recommended to use a mobile phone number?

Using a mobile number allows Referoo to send the referee an SMS invitation with a link to complete the reference online, in addition to any email invitation.

What should I do if I keep getting a phone number error?

Check that: (1) the correct country is selected, (2) the number has the right number of digits, and (3) the number is valid and correct. If the issue persists, contact Referoo support.
